Which is the best approach to track the filter cutoff (keyboard tracking)?

I need it mostly for pads, where the left hand needs to be "duller" than the upper hand that plays the chords.

Keyboard tracking uses a center key to unbalance values for filter, amplitude, envelopes etc. when tracking=0 the cutoff (or whatever needs unbalancing) is the same throughout the whole keyboard. when it is positive, the filter (on the "center key") has the value set by the controls - increases linearly its value as higher keys are played - decreases values as lower keys are played.
Inverting the tracking, does the opposite, nice for leads where you often need to decrease the high frequencies as you reach high pitches.
another example is to emulate a piano style amp envelope, where the higher notes have less decay than bass notes.
