I'd like to use Synthedit to explore phase and ratio relationships without having to get too much into programming.
I've been checking out the demo version.
Unfortunately, I can't find all of of the features I'm looking for.
A few of the features I'm looking for: I'd like to - be able to control the start phase of each oscillator. (I might want one to start at 0 and another one at 45 degrees) - have a lot more acurate control than the knobs and sliders provide. - see what frequency an oscillator is on and the ability to change it by inputing numbers and/or by incrementing with buttons. Same goes for volume. - have the frequency of one oscillator always be in a given ratio to another, so when I change one, the other changes as well. - automate settings changes (like incrementing a value and then playing for a couple of seconds before incrementing again).
Are these things possible with Synthedit? Would I have to make custom modules, input/output fields for start phase, frequency, volume and ratio? Is it even possible to make custom modules?
I realize that Synthedit wasn't made with this kind of use in mind, but I hope it's possible anyway.

Hi, - Phase start/offset: use 3rd party Oscillators, like CK Audio OSC (32bit only). - The precision of the knobs are about 10 digits? You work with floats. - There are converter modules to convert from volts to freq, there is also the ability to change the numbers with buttons or text input. - You can connect wires to multiple Osc pitch inputs, to keep the ratio relationship between them. - Not sure how to automate what you want, you can't record what you do I think and have it "played" back. Build your own modules: www.synthedit.com/software-development-kit/

First of all, thanks for your answer. - Phase start/offset: use 3rd party Oscillators, like CK Audio OSC (32bit only). Do you mean "CK - Chris Kerry" on www.synthedit.com/modules/ ? - The precision of the knobs are about 10 digits? You work with floats. When I insert a knob, hook it up to the pitch of an oscillator and turn the knob as little as possible, the frequency changes in quite audible steps. Same goes for sliders. Those controls just don't seem suitable to my need. - There are converter modules to convert from volts to freq, there is also the ability to change the numbers with buttons or text input. Where are they? I'm looking at insert - conversion... and there's a lot of stuff, but nothing that goes from volts to freq... What I have so far is a Text Entry -> Text To Float -> Float To Volts... and then that goes into the Pitch input of the Oscillator. Audible sound seems to be between the values of 0.4 and 9.4. How do I change that so I that I can input the frequency directly, like 261.625565 Hz? I've checked the properties of all of the modules I mentioned but I didn't find anything I could use there. I can't find the buttons either, just a lot of other controls.

- Yes, but he stopped selling his modules. I don't know if there are any alternatives. When I insert a knob, hook it up to the pitch of an oscillator and turn the knob as little as possible, the frequency changes in quite audible steps. Same goes for sliders. Those controls just don't seem suitable to my need. I see, think you need to set the range less then what's standard. Which version of Synthedit are you using? Where are they? I can't find the buttons either, just a lot of other controls. In the old version of Synthedit you need 3rd party modules to convert from volts to freq. Dave Haupt made those modules, they are no longer available on his site but they were saved by some SE user some time ago. I have that zip file somewhere, need to check that for you. To input a freq directly use a slider module or fixed value, then connect to the converter module.

I see, think you need to set the range less then what's standard. Which version of Synthedit are you using? Yes, changing the range (Lo and Hi values) helps, thanks. 1.1913 DEMO I'll buy it as soon as I know that I can use it the way I want to. To input a freq directly use a slider module or fixed value, then connect to the converter module.

What I'd like is to be able to enter a frequency in a text field and then increment/decrement it with buttons. That doesn't seem to be possible as the Text Entry module doesn't have any input plugs. So far I've tried Text Entry -> Text To Float -> Float To Volts -> DH_HzToVoltage -> Oscillator. I've also tried Fixed Values and a Slider I guess it would be ok if I could increment/decrement with buttons and then use a text output module to show me the frequency, but I can't find any text output modules. I tried connecting the Volts Out plug of the Float to Volts module to the Volt Meter. That shows me the frequency, but it shows only one place after the decimal point (and I've got the same problem with the slider). When I open the automation for it, I can see three places after the decimal point, but it's sometimes off by 0.001 or 0.002... and I don't know if the Volt Meter is measuring wrong or if there's an error somewhere in the conversion from Text - Float - Volts... Can you think of a way to increment/decrement AND be able to see the frequency value in real time with at least 3 places after the decimal point? Can you tell me where the buttons are? Thanks again.

Check out this example, you can click on the white space in the text entry module and enter a value. You'll have to press play in Synthedit to see something happening. A more accurate meter is KDL his volt meter, or use mine. I placed them in the test project, so install the modules first in your modules folder. www.rubyhex.com/synthedit/rhmodules.nl/blog/?p=554Attachments:Project1.zip (2.61 KB)

Am not sure about the increment/decrement, don't have a simple solution for that atm..

I might be really stupid, but I just can't figure out how/where to download your module. There's no file to download on that page as far as I can tell. Is there a way to get the KDL Show Volts to show up on the panel?

There is link to the downloadpage, here: rhmodules.nl/blog/?p=492Think KDL his module is only for testing stuff, not sure.

Now that they're in the 3rd Party folder, I can open your project and it works fine. What I don't get is how to insert one myself, as they don't show up when I go to insert - 3rd Party... There are other modules there, like the one from KDL, but yours aren't. I guess I can just copy-paste the one that's already in the project. Thanks again.

It's just not under 3rd Party for some reason. There's an error from the 5th decimal, by the way. Both in the KDL as in your module. I don't think it matters though. It's precise enough. Thanks again!
