Hi all.. So, I have been busy building a drum machine. I know there's plenty out there but I been making music for 20 years and have used many. Battery has been a good tool but more often than not I feel theres room for more creative approach and a lot of machines lack in some way but good in others. I decided to build a drum machine that incorporates all the features I feel would make a very useful and creative tool. I have built most of it and it has some pretty cool modulation features and options but I'm now approaching the point of adding in more effects. It has pretty good filters so far and reverb. But I'm looking to add a phaser and flanger but have hit a bit of a brick wall. I have built the one in the wiki book but to be fair I'm not very happy with the way it sounds so I was wondering if anyone had an improved version and would be willing to share it. I will be putting up the drum machine up here for anyone that wants to test it out once I have the basic version complete. P.s. If anyone has any effect they feel is good and are willing to share please do and if it suits I will add it to the machine. just thought I'd ask. Thanks Nathan @ www.digitalresonance.co.uk

Thanks for the reply rob..
The effect sounds a bit Raw and harsh perhaps cheap even.. The trouble is I'm new to dsp algorithms and at the same time fussy about how things sound.
I will have a go at using alternate bypass filters from Chris or David h and see how that sounds.
It has up to 8 all pass filters depending on how many stages it has. Maybe I should try using feedback in the chain and see how that sounds perhaps?

I never built a Phaser effect, don't really have much more tips. Maybe I should start making one as well, as for Flanger. Am really not sure the sound will be different with the other filters, as they are both Biquad in nature. CPU wise you should gain some when using lots of CK his Biquadfilters.
Hmm, problem in Synthedit is there is no 1 sample feedback delay possible without coding your own modules.

I made a phaser in SE 1.2 for my drum plugin. A chain of allpass filters is the secret. I used the DH_Allpass Filter module. I've attached my SE 1.2 project file. You can find the DH_Allpass Filter module at Dave Haupt's webside for free. Just open it in SE 1.2 as prefab to integrate into your project. SE 1.2 Phaser.zip (851.69 KB)
