Hello,
2 questions:
1) I have made a stereo delay in SE , but don't know how to set the number of voices (polyphony - as in the MIDI to CV module)
2) the delay has 2 ins, 2 outs. When I insert it on mono tracks in my DAW, the outputs become mono. Any way to fix this? Or do I have to make the same project having one IN? - thus having 2 seperate dlls?
Thanx in advance

2 more questions 1. where do you set the number of polyphony for a delay??? or do mean the midi-cv? i checked in synthedit and the SE-Delay isnt polyphony so there is nothing special to set. 2. uhm.. as the name tells it... its a mono-channel. if you want stereo you have to use a stereo-channel. or did your DAW dont have stereo channels? or what do you mean exactly?

Hi,
In a synth configuration the number of voices sets the number of notes that can overlap. In a delay unit, If the input signal is a sustaining note and the repeats are plenty, then the overlaps are also plenty. I am asking if there is a hidden limitation on voices in delay modules by the module designer in order to consume less cpu power, or if this can be set by the developer of the vst.
As for the mono/stereo question: I have seen vst plugins work both on mono and stereo tracks in CUBASE for example. The outputs remain stereo no matter what the input is. I have also seen plugins in two versions of the same effect/model in order for the user to select accordingly. I prefer the first way of all-in-one dll.
Thanx again.

1. ok so there is nothing to set. the limit is 10 seconds recording. i dont know how the delay manage voices. if you click on debug you can see the polyphone is only 1 point. if the module would be polyphony you will see as many points you set in the midi2CV. if you play with a midi-keybord you will see the points flashing green.
2. a mono channel cant be stereo! the output will be the same on the left and right channel. so if you have a stereo sample with for example a closed hihat on the left channel and a open hihat on the right channel both samples will be mixed and you will hear both samples on both channels.

maybe im mistaken and didnt understood well but you have to use 2 delay modules to make a stereo delay and use the X-Mix module to cross or convert them to mono in order to make an "all in one"! just one delay module wont make your output stereo!

He actually wrote 2ins and outs in the opening post -- Delays as audio fx are by nature full polyphonic. They eat everything on the input, put that in a buffer and outputs the result at the same time in realtime. (Delaytime can be made by altering the buffersize on the run (88.200 bytes = 1 sek. @ 16bit/44Khz) or by altering the bufferspeed. Btw. the last option are the way old BBD-chips work.

Claus is right. I am aware of the two delays for stereo out. I was just wondering why my DAW sums my outputs of my plugin to mono, when I insert the delay on a mono track. It could just couple the mono track signal and send it to both my inputs. Then the rest of the path would be ok. By the way, it does this with all 2in/2out plugins, so there is no problem particularly with my creation. I asume that mono tracks have mono inputs and mono outputs...
On the other hand I have tried to re-arrange the plugin in SE to make it a 1in/2out, but didn't manage to do it... for some reason it crashes when loaded in the DAW... It works fine in SE but not in the DAW.
Thank you Claus for the explanation, and thank you all for the replies!

hey..maybe beacuse mono tracks are supposed to be mono?!! maybe a mono track in your daw has only one in one out..and every stereo plug you insert there is turnned to mono... i do not work with mono tracks, so i cannot say with certain : )

When You compile as VST do You check the "Mono use OK (send effect)"? - That might solve the crashing problem.
