Hi all, it looks like there are quite some Stutter effects around created with Synthedit (one for example is Disorder by Majkens, see majken.se, unfortunately I found no way to contact the author for asking...) I wonder how is this goal accomplished... essentially, it is all about constantly sampling a defined lenght of incoming audio, whose buffer is then played when required upon some trigger (manual or automated by the VST host or tempo-synced). You know what Stutter effect means... pretty this [is is is is is is], got it [ot it ot it] ? ok... The problem is, within the included modules I could find none suitable to this purpose, i.e to sample incoming audio to an internal buffer to be played when required. Perhaps is there some third party module doing this job ? I am asking because I wanted to write a Stutter effect suiting my very own needs. Thanks in advance for any hint !

I don't have enough time to explain(exams), but in a nutshell, abuse a delay which is a buffer, we recently discussed this here:

After typing a whole piece on stutter/stepsequencing I just realized you mean a kind of retrigger / delay kind of stutter which I have no experience with so far..

Hiya, LOL yeah "abusing" the delay module was something I thought of already, but it has its drawbacks and limitations of course. In particular, that would be a no go in case I want my effect to sample, for example, a part of its track's audio to be stutter-played *much* later in the song. I found a rnddelay.sep somewhere but Synthedit refuses to load it by complaining that it is no longer compatible - even if I am not sure it did the job either. Reaper (the DAW I am using) actually has some apparently suitable effects, like the LoopSampler.js... fact is, they only work in mono and nobody there ever explained me how to use the "triggers"... those effects IMHO are bugged and can't be automated or I never understood how to use them. That's why I wanted to write my own effect... if you write your own thing, it always suits your very own needs Thanks anyway !
